YouTube TV has been added to Roku and Apple TV units in the United States.
The cable disrupter is now available in over 80 US markets including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta, and Washington DC.
It offers both live TV and catchup up from networks including ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CW, Disney Channel, ESPN and FX. Recordings can be made via a cloud-based DVR.
YouTube TV has been added to the majority of Roku products including Roku TVs, Roku Ultra, Roku Streaming Stick+, Roku Streaming Stick (3800x, 3600x), Roku Express/Express+. It’s previously been restricted to smart TVs (LG and Samsung), Android TV, Chromecast, and Xbox One devices.
With a 37 per cent market share, according to Parks Associates research, Roku is essential to YouTube TV’s bring your own device strategy. The more pricey Apple TV will bring in far fewer new homes, but still an essential compontent in the product’s rollout.
Users can enjoy a free trial before signing up to a $35 (€28) subscription.
Launched less than a year ago, YouTube TV is already estimated to have in the region of 300,000 subscribers.
