O2 grows Czech TV business

January 30, 2018 10.25 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Czech incumbent O2 ended 2017 with a combined total of 237,000 IPTV and OTT customers for its O2 TV service.

This was 16,000, or 7.5%, more than a year earlier.

At the same time, the complementary MULTIservice, which allows viewers to watch TV on multiple sets, continued to grow in popularity last year. As of the end of 2017, close to 36,000 customers had already signed up top receive it.

Meanwhile, the number of xDSL fixed internet customers reached 729,000 as of the end of December 2017, with 75% of the total enjoying VDSL technology.

O2’s consolidated operating revenues in the Czech Republic reached CZK37,709 million (€1,490 million) in 2017, up 0.5% year-on-year, whole operating revenue fell by 0.4% to CZK30,778 million. EBITDA rose by 0.6% year-on-year to CZK10,513 million amd consolidated net profit by 6.2% to CZK5,587 million.

Broadband TV News notes that although O2 is also present in Slovakia and provides figures on operations there in its latest results, these do not include O2 TV.

As previously reported by Broadband TV News, the service made its full debut in the country in June 2017.
