French OTT multiscreen service Molotov.tv said it now has two million regular users of its service, of which 500,000 use the platform almost daily.
According to Jean-David Blanc, founder and CEO of Molotov, there are 4.1 million registered users who have used the service at least five times.
According to Blanc, speaking to Les Echos, the company now wants to expand internationally to other European countries. Molotov is aiming at 100 million subscribers within five years time.
Sky revealed in September 2016 that it had invested €4 million in Molotov. Blanc explained that Molotov wanted to develop in Europe and become “a powerful independent platform”. “We are open to partnerships, but to accelerate our development, not as a subcontractor,” he said. In other words, Molotov does not want to be the simple TV interface of a telecom operator.
Molotov is available on the Freebox Mini 4K, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, TLC and Thomson, Apple TV, Shield TV, Chromecast, and as web TV on Mac, Windows and Linux via www.molotov.tv. The service was lauched in July 2016 in France and offers free access to 34 channels of which 25 are the digital terrestrial channels. In addition, premium channels are available.
Molotov was founded by French media veterans Jean-David Blanc, Pierre Lescure and Jean-Marc Denoual.
