The German industry association of commercial broadcasters, VPRT, will change its name to Vaunet on May 21, 2018.
This decision was made at VPRT’s general assembly in Berlin today. The name Vaunet is a combination of the initial letters of ‘video’ and ‘audio’ and the term ‘network’.
Under the new title, the association intends to raise more awareness for the economic, socio-political and cultural significance of commercial audiovisual media and position itself as the leading authority representing the interests of the players in this industry.
The association comprises more than 150 commercial enterprises from the areas of TV, radio, internet and mobile media.
“As Vaunet, we want to position ourselves even more broadly in future and present the audiovisual industry as a whole as what it is: One of the largest economic sectors in Germany and a driving force of the creative industry,” VPRT’s Managing Director Dr Harald Flemming said in Berlin. “Vaunet stands for the logical further development of VPRT under the sign of convergence. The audiovisual content industry today is far more than just classical broadcasting – even though we have our roots here and this awareness will continue to be anchored in the core of Vaunet’s brand.”
