The world’s highest earning football clubs have grown the share of income derived from broadcast deals.
According the Deloitte’s Football Money League, broadcast revenue is now the largest revenue source with a share of 45 per cent. At the same time the amount gained from commercial revenue and matchday revenue have reduced to 38% and 17% respectively.
Top club Manchester United saw its broadcast revenue climb from €119 million in 2013 to €226 in 2017.
Deloitte anticipates that the €8 billion revenue barrier will be broken during the next year. However, it is unlikely that the sector will see the same rapid rises as in previous years.
in 2016/17 new domestic broadcast deal got underway, increasing revenue, but Premier League and La Liga distributions will remain relatively stable, as both enter the second year of existing TV deals.
For the Premier League and with it the long term composition of the money league depends on the outcome of the new three-year deal that starts with the 2019/20 season.
