Eurosport Player slashes price for Winter Olympics

January 18, 2018 10.25 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Eurosport Player is offering a special cut-price deal for the Winter Olympics PyeongChang 2018 – new subscribers can access the OTT service at special prices for the month of February.

Eurosport is offering the special Olympic subscription for €0.99 in the Benelux, with similar offers in other European countries.

The broadcaster said that after the first month, regular pricing will kick in, but viewers are free to cancel the subscription at any time, so people can subscribe just for the month of February to follow the Winter Olympics.

Regular pricing for the service is €6.99 a month or €29.99 if paid annually. In the UK, an annual pass costs £29.99.

According to Eurosport parent Discovery Communcations “the interactive Eurosport Player will be the only place for fans to watch every minute, every athlete and every sport – online, on mobile, tablet devices or connected TVs. As part of the first fully digital Games for Europe, more than 4,000 hours of coverage and 100 events will be available, including 900 hours of live action.”

In a related development, Eursport has said that it has sublicensed to RAI free-to-air audio-visual rights for the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 on DTT and on satellite platform Tivusat. RAI will present a wide selection of free-to-air coverage – up to 100 hours – on up to two television channels and digital simulcast.
