TiVo has announced plans to integrate with the smart home.
It will link the TV with devices including Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home.
The next-gen set-top box company is to use applets created for IFTTT. The IFTTT ecosystem acts as a bridge between various cloud-based products and services. For example to switch on smart lights at sunset or to add groceries to an online shopping service.
The UK supermarket Tesco uses an applet to connect Alexa and Google to its online ordering, where possible matching a request to a customers favourite products.
In the case of TiVo, pre-programmed Applets will be able to recognise, and skip through, a commercial break without the need for a push button or voice control.
TiVo intends to produce a catalogue of its own pre-configured IFTTT Applets or users will be able to browse applets created by the IFTTT community.
