3 Screen Solutions custom launcher for Android TV debuts at CES

December 20, 2017 09.28 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Germany’s 3 Screen Solutions has announced that its 3Ready Custom Launcher will be shown by Google as part of its very latest Android TV Operator Tier solution, fully embracing Android Oreo, at CES 2018.

This will be the first-ever opportunity for CES visitors to see and experience the 3Ready Rapid-Launch STB + Multiscreen solution.

The new Android Oreo compliant Android TV Operator Tier solution delivers new features and business opportunities for operators. Netflix is pre-integrated and available for speedy out-of-the-box launch, pending commercial agreement. Furthermore, the Custom Launcher enables the platform owner or service provider to implement own branding and design.

Operator-owned programming, marketing offers and content prioritised by the operator can be displayed ‘front and center’ to the viewer. This new user engagement and navigation is a breakthrough in this latest proposition from Google.

“We have been on an amazing journey since launching 3Ready in September 2016,” says Kai-Christian Borchers, Managing Director of 3SS, “and we are really excited that the journey now takes us to CES.”

An important highlight of the new Android Oreo proposition for TV operators is availability of the Google Assistant that lets the user interact fully with the TV platform via spoken commands. The Google Assistant enables the TV viewer to activate full TV operations, find prioritised content from the operator as well as 3rd party apps, but additionally, it interfaces with today’s smart home functions, including allowing the user to use his/her voice to control lighting, heating/cooling, as well as communicate with all other Assistant enabled IoT devices.

“We are pleased to be working with Google on cutting-edge solutions that truly represent the next generation of TV.”
