Vipnet secures Champions League rights

December 15, 2017 09.31 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Croatia’s Vipnet has secured the rights to the UEFA Champions League for three seasons, beginning 2018/19.

As a result, it will show around 120 live games a season in HD quality on Vip and B.net TV. It has the rights to all live games played on Tuesdays and all live games played on Wednesdays, except one selected by public TV. Specialised broadcasting channels will begin on July 1 next year and live broadcasts in August with the last qualifying round.

Vipnet has also secured the rights to the Champions League, which contains matches played since 2009. In addition, it holds to the rights to 3match highlights and 33 episodes of the Champions League magazine.

Champions League matches will be available on all Vipnet platforms – Vip Sat TV, IPTV and cable – to over 450,000 households in Croatia. It will also be included in Vip Now, which can be received on mobile phones and tablets.

Commenting on the development, Vipnet CEO Jiri Dvorjancansky said: “Over the last few years, Vipnet has been the fastest growing convergent operator, and by purchasing exclusive rights to distribute TV content, we ensure growth in the coming years. Exclusive rights for the UEFA Champions League are the highlight of the TV offer and the trigger for TV provider selection and that is why I am extremely proud to offer viewers the most watched football competition. Combined with continuous investments in the latest mobile and fixed infrastructure, we are committed to retaining Vipnet’s position as the telecom operator with the best customer satisfaction. ”
