Natural history programme Blue Planet II has become the most popular programme on the BBC iPlayer in the year to date.
So far 4.2 million requests have been made for the landmark series, overtaking Tom Hardy’s Georgian-era drama Taboo by 133,000.
Drama Doctor Foster recorded 3.7 million requests for the first episode of its new run and 3 million for the second.
Charlotte Moore, director of BBC Content, says: “It’s been an extraordinary record breaking year for BBC iPlayer with the awe-inspiring Blue Planet II coming out on top. Closely followed by an incredible range of original drama as huge numbers have chosen Taboo, Doctor Foster, Three Girls, Sherlock, Apple Tree Yard and Line of Duty. And, this Christmas, we’re giving viewers a special treat with box sets of some favourite shows to binge on over the holiday season.”
Other shows to feature in BBC iPlayer’s top ten programmes of 2017 include Sherlock’s New Year’s Day episode, the second episode of Blue Planet II, new series Apple Tree Yard and the return of crime drama Line of Duty.
As previously reported in Broadband TV News, the BBC has now added a 4K version of Blue Planet II.
