Global Media Innovator 2018 shortlist unveiled

December 3, 2017 14.09 Europe/London By Broadband TV News Correspondent

The board members of the Diplomatic Council´s Global Media Innovator 2018 have decided on the shortlist for this year’s competition.

The selection was made from a long list of 17 companies that were suggested by the board member’s networks. The 2018 Innovator will be presented during the annual DC Gala at the Grand Hotel Hessischer Hof in Frankfurt (Germany) on February 2. The Innovator again will receive a work of the international renown artist Ulrike Bolenz.

The nominated companies are:
• Dispelix Oy, Finland (Augmented Reality),
• Dive.tv, Madrid (Artificial Intelligence),
• Iflix, Kuala Lumpur (Lowband Video on Demand in Underdeveloped Countries),
• Ruptly Live, Berlin (Live Streaming for Everybody across all platforms),
• Realtime Advertising Inc., London (Advertising)

The DC Global Media Innovator (GMI) is awarded annually to the company with the biggest influence on the development of the global digital community. The winner is determined by a Board of nine independent senior media and IT industry experts from all over the world. It is not possible to apply for the Innovator but the GMI Board is constantly observing the entire media world in search for the best innovation.

The DC Global Media Innovator was launched in 2016 recognizing the British company V-Nova as its first winner. In 2017 the prize was given to the Emblematic Group which is headquartered in Santa Monica, CA and set new benchmarks in the creation of news content through virtual and augmented reality.

Members of this year’s DC GMI board are: Nigerian TV Expert Ijeoma Onah, Dato’ Ng Wan Peng, COO Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, MDEC (Kuala Lumpur), and Moeed Ahmad, Head of Incubation & Innovation Group of Al Jazeera Media Network (Doha). Blair Westlake, Principal Media Squareup (Seattle), Ian Wightman, VP Research and Operations of IHS Markit Inc. (Austin), Ed Hall, Managing Partner Expert Media Partners (London), Robin Eckermann, Eckermann Associates (Canberra) and Jo Groebel, Deutsches Digital Institut (DDI) in Berlin. In the absence of a clear majority during the Global Innovator 2018 selection process, the vote of the Diplomatic Council’s Founding President, Ambassador Buddhi K. Athauda, will decide.
