Belgian family entertainment company Studio 100 has taken over New York-based animation studio Little Airplane Productions.
Little Airplane Productions was founded by Josh Selig in 1999 and its staff has won numerous awards, including 21 Emmy Awards. The company is known for series such as Wonder Pets, Small Potatoes, Super Wings and P. King Duckling, all original productions created for broadcasters around the world.
Little Airplane Productions also has many international co-productions to its credit, having worked closely with American broadcasters such as Disney, Nickelodeon and Sprout. In Europe, there are strong links with KiKA, CBeebies and Canal+.
Furthermore, Little Airplane Productions develops content with Chinese partners that is also sold outside of China. The series Super Wings is one example of this.
With the acquisition of which financial details were not disclosed, Studio 100 is taking a major step in the group’s international expansion.
Josh Selig will be working closely with Hans Bourlon and Hans Ulrich Stoef, CEO of Studio 100 Media. Little Airplane Productions will continue to focus on developing and producing new projects in close cooperation with Studio 100’s animation studios – Studio 100 Animation in Paris and Flying Bark Productions in Sydney – and will also continue developing for its third-party clients.
Studio 100 Media in Munich will take care of international content sales, the exploitation of licences and merchandising as well as the worldwide distribution of new brands and productions.
