The Slovak public broadcaster RTVS has announced plans to launch two more channels.
Speaking about its future strategy and quoted by Medialne, RTVS’s new CEO Jaroslav Reznik said that the first new channel will focus on sport and second will be aimed at children up to the age of 15.
While the former will be broadcast like RTVS’s two current channels, the latter will only be distributed over the internet.
Although there are as yet no fixed launch dates for the two new channels, the one focused on sport is likely to make its debut in spring 2019, in time for the home ice hockey championships, or ahead of the Olympic Games in 2020. Meanwhile, the kids channel will be launched at Christmas 2018 or a year later.
Reznik also called for a debate on the funding of RTVS, arguing that it should come from mostly receiver licence fees. These, in his view, should be increased.
Furthermore, he said that by 2022 RTVS should be an instantly recognisable medium operating in the new digital age.
