Netflix is now the most popular fully subscription on demand service in Poland in terms of reach.
However, it faces strong competition from ShowMax, which only made its debut in February this year, while in the wider on demand and application field Polish services still dominate.
According to data produced by Gemius/PBI for and published by Wirtualne Media, Netflix had 1.21 million real users in October, or almost three times as many as a year earlier, with 14.95 million opens – over three times as many as in October 2016 –and each viewing on average for 9:58 minutes. Its reach was 4.4%.
Meanwhile, ShowMax had 969,100 users, with 15.25 million opens and each spending on average 12:48 minutes, with the reach being 3.53%.
The most popular service was VoD.pl (4.07 million users, 18.61 million opens,37:37 average viewing and 14.81% reach).
It was followed by Player.pl and CDA.pl – premium, with Netflix and ShowMax in seventh and eighth places respectively.
In terms of mobile apps, Player was in top spot with 1.18 million real users and a reach of 4.29%, with ShowMax in fifth place and Netflix seventh.
VoD.pl was in top spot in terms of VOD usage both on PCs and mobile devices, with both Netflix and ShowMax still trailing some way behind.
For instance, on mobile devices VoD.pl had 1.06 milion real users in October, while Netflix had 133,200 and ShowMax 228,000.
