UPC deal delay holding back Multimedia

November 17, 2017 09.07 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish cable operator Multimedia Polska continues to be hampered by the delay in the competition authority UOKiK’s decision on its acquisition by UPC Polska.

In a statement accompanying Multimedia’s latest set of results, its president Andrzej Rogowski said that the situation is preventing the company from expanding and making rational decisions related to improving the scope and quality of its services. It has also had to sell its utility business ahead of the UPC acquisition and is now in the process of disposing of its insurance business.

Multimedia Polska had revenues of PLN510.2 million (€120.3 million) in the first nine months of this year, down 2.4% on the corresponding period in 2016. However, within that figure TV revenues rose by 3.5% to PLN282.7 million. Its RGU total as of September 30 stood at 1.73 million, or 3.8% more than a year earlier, with both TV and internet seeing growth.

The average number of services taken per client was 2.29 (2.11 in September 2016) and ARPU amounted to PLN69 (PLN68.3), with the number of subscribers being over 757,500.

EBITDA for the first nine months of the year was PLN252.9 million (PLN258 million) and net profit PLN8.9 million.

Multimedia Polska also invested PLN163.9 million in the first three quarters of this year.
