The Russian operator Akado Telekom has completed the first phase of DOCSIS 3.1 trials.
According to ComNews, the second phase will start in H1 2018 and see the company install new equipment in an experimental zone in Moscow.
The trials are due to be concluded next year, after which the company will roll out the technology across its entire network.
Akado upgraded its network to DOCSIS 3.0 in 2013, allowing it to offer download speeds of up to 200 Mbps. With 3.1, these will be increased 10-fold.
Having recently sold its assets in St Petersburg and Yekaterinburg to ER Telecom, Akado remains present in the capital Moscow, where it is one of the leading providers of cable and internet services.
Upgrading to 3.1 will allow it to maintain its position in what is a highly competitive market.
