Subscriber levels for Canal Plus France have increased for the first time since the beginning of 2015, parent Vivendi has revealed.
Net additions remained positive quarter over quarter: the subscriber base grew slightly in the third quarter of 2017 with a net gain of 1,000 subscribers compared to a decline over the same period in 2016.
Reporting improved financial results, the troubled pay-TV firm said the revenue decrease of 1.6 per cent in the first nine months of 2017 compared to a decline of 2.7 per cent during the same period in 2016.
Canal+ Group’s revenues amounted to €3,825 million, down 2.0% compared to the first nine months of 2016
At the end of September 2017, subscriber numbers across the group reached 14.2 million, a year-on-year increase of 3.2 million, thanks largely to wholesale agreements with telcos Free and Orange.
But the less lucrative nature of the offer meant that revenues were still down. There has also been a reduction in the free-to-air window on the main Canal+ channel.
Revenues from international pay-TV operations grew by 5.1 per cent on the year.
