The operators of four commercial DTT channels distributed by Poland’s recently launched MUX-8 have asked to have their services switched to another multiplex.
However, reports Press.pl, their request has been refused by the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT).
As a result, they have now asked the regulator to have their licence fees reduced.
The operators – Green Content, Wirtualna Polska, Cable Television Networks & Partners and ZPR Media – argue that the technical coverage of the VHF multiplex MUX-8 is far lower than the 95% claimed by the national transmission company Emitel, being in reality some 42.3% of DTT homes in Poland.
All other multiplexes operating in the country, including the upcoming MUX-5 on which they are seeking carriage, broadcast in UHF are therefore more accessible to viewers.
The four operators currently pay PLN13.5 million (€3.18 million) each for a 10-year licence on MUX-8.
