MYTF1 is returning to Altice-SFR after a new agreement between the French commercial broadcaster and the cablenet.
Altice-SFR will now carry TF1 Premium, which includes enhanced MYTF1, including extended catch-up beyond the first seven days and boxed sets of landmark shows. All five free-TV channels produced by TF1 will be available, as will a new as yet untitled channel, on a six-month exclusive. It will launch in the first quarter of 2018.
SFR subscribers will also get TF1’s share of the 2018 Football World Cup in the 4K format.
TF1 will bear the transmission costs for the unencrypted channels.
Gilles Pélisson, Chairman & CEO of the TF1 group, says: “We are delighted to have struck this innovative partnership deal with Altice-SFR. It recognises the value of our content, keeps pace with changing viewing habits and enhances the viewer experience. This agreement is a major advance and opens up a new era in the relationship between broadcasters and distributors. Both of our groups were driven by a commitment to put consumers first, and to reach a fair deal that will stand the test of time.”
The distribution agreement for TF1 group’s theme channels: Histoire, TV Breizh and
Ushuaia TV has also been renewed.
Alain Weill, CEO of SFR Media, says: “We are very pleased with this novel agreement with the TF1 group. Together we are enhancing the offer to SFR subscribers, who will be the first to benefit from these new very high added-value services. This deal strengthens Altice-SFR’s leading position as content operator.”
As might be expected legal action between the two companies has been abandoned.
Negotiations over TF1 Premium began in July 2016, but negotiations broke off in April 2017 with the contract expiring July 29, having been extended from December last year. This left Altice-SFR without catch-up services from France’s largest commercial broadcaster.
They resume Tuesday.
