Google has unblocked news from Russia’s Federal News Agency (FAN) from Google News.
Furthermore, reports Vedomosti, it has restored access to the FAN archive for the period 2014-17.
It adds that Google News stopped carrying content from FAN in late October as the agency is associated with Yevgeny Prigozhin, who is suspected of interfering in last year’s presidential election in the US.
FAN responded by accusing Google of political censorship, adding that the US company did not like its coverage of the military campaign in Syria.
The Russian regulator Roskomnadzor sent a request to Google on FAN’s behalf last week in which it said that it “stands guard over the freedom of speech and in every way hinders any manifestations of censorship.”
