OTT platform Zattoo has introduced a recording function in Germany.
Through a click on the electronic programme guide (EPG), users can record the programmes of more than 50 TV channels including the channels from public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, Viacom and Sport1. Further channels are to follow in the next weeks.
Subscribers of Zattoo Premium can store up to 30 programmes. Recordings can be set in any Zattoo app and, thanks to cloud storage, watched on any device and place. This enables, for example, programming a recording on the go using the smartphone and watching it in the living room through a Zattoo smart TV app.
With the series recording feature, users can arrange automatic recordings of programmes such as a weekly series.
“The recording function is a milestone for us, enabling us to further extend the advantages of TV streaming compared with classic TV reception methods like DTT, cable and satellite,” said Jörg Meyer, Chief Officer Content & Consumer at Zattoo. “The fact that broadcasters license the rights for online recording to streaming platforms such as Zattoo shows that TV streaming gains increasing importance in the broadcasters’ distribution strategies.”
The recording function complements the replay and restart feature for time-shifted television offered by Zattoo.
