Google’s OTT live streaming platform YouTube TV is launching an app built for TV devices, so viewers can stream live TV on Android TV devices including Nvidia Shield and TVs with Android TV built-in.
Android TV sets include Sony, and other manufacturers. The YouTube TV app will also become available on the Xbox One family of devices (Xbox One, Xbox One S, and soon Xbox One X).
In the coming weeks YouTube TV will be launching on smart TVs, such as LG, Samsung, Sony, along with Apple TV. TouTube recently expanded its TV device support by launching voice commands with Google Home paired with Chromecast.
YouTube TV unveiled details of its live OTT service last February, and was launched on April 5 in fiver US cities Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco. Ten new markets, including Dallas, Atlanta, and Washington DC, were launched in July. YouTube TV is now available in all top 50 metro areas, covering over two-thirds of the US.
YouTube said that over half the time spent watching YouTube TV is consumed through Chromecast on the big screen.
