Sky Austria has acquired the exclusive worldwide rights of the Austrian football Bundesliga from the 2018/19 season for four years.
The pay-TV broadcaster wants to show all matches live on all distribution infrastructures (satellite, cable, IPTV, OTT, mobile) in this period. Sky also won the separate tender for the production of Bundesliga’s broadcast signal.
Financial details were not disclosed, but the Bundesliga says in a statement that the new contract resembles a record figure and a 40% increase in revenues compared with the current rights period.
ORF which used to show one game per week on free-TV remains empty-handed. However, the public broadcaster could still end up with some rights as Sky wants to allocate a highlights package to a free-TV partner. Furthermore, four matches per season will be shown live on free-TV. Sky would also sublicense them to a free-TV partner.
