Vodafone is in talks with Telekom Romania to gain access to its fixed-line network.
Quoting several industry sources, ZF reports that this will allow the company to establish a presence in the fixed-to-mobile services market. It adds that while Vodafone has refused to comment, Telekom Romania has confirmed that talks have taken place with several companies, without specifying if Vodafone is one of them.
Telekom Romania already has such an access agreement in place with Orange and the regional cable operator AKTA.
The decision on whether or not to sign an agreement with Telekom Romania now rests in the hands of Murielle Lorilloux, Vodafone Romania’s new CEO. One possible sticking point is the possible resumption of talks about a possible alliance between Vodafone and UPC. Were this to come about, it would have far-reaching consequences on the Romanian market.
At present, Vodafone is the only major operator in Romania that does not offer its customers fixed-line TV and internet services.
