Kabel-TV Lampert launches multiscreen TV with Zattoo and ABOX42

October 25, 2017 00.01 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

WATCH VIDEO. Austrian cable operator Kabel-TV Lampert has launched its new DVB-C/IP hybrid-TV solution provided by Zattoo.

The multiscreen service combines classic cable TV which continues to be transmitted in the DVB-C standard with interactive IP-based functions such as live pause, restart, catch-up TV and cloud recording. Less frequently-watched channels will also be transmitted via IP in future.

Switzerland-based Zattoo developed the white-label hybrid solution for the large TV set in the living room in collaboration with German hardware developer ABOX42, using the ABOX42 M30 hybrid set-top box platform.

“In the long term, linear cable TV alone will not be enough to survive in the changing TV market where we are seeing more and more people using additional and time-delayed content,” said Karoline Lampert, CEO of Kabel-TV Lampert. “This is why our goal was to continue developing our cable TV product and to make sure it remains relevant in the future. Now we have achieved that. I’m very happy that our long-standing cooperation with Zattoo gives us the chance to do just that and allows us to reach a new level.”

Kabel-TV Lampert chose the Zattoo platform back in 2015. Until now, the focus has been on mobile applications for iOS and Android devices as well as a browser-based service for PC or Mac. These applications will now include IPTV functions and will be connected to the TV set through the set-top box: This allows customers, for example, to manage their recordings while on the go or to choose their favourite channels on each device.

Zattoo operates the complete hybrid platform as an end-to-end solution including the multiscreen service, managing the set-top-boxes in the field and updating the applications.

“As a regional cable TV network operator, Kabel-TV Lampert can now enter the future and offer a range of products previously only known from large multi-national companies,” said Gernot Jaeger, Chief Officer B2B TV Solutions at Zattoo.
