ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery launch free OTT service

October 16, 2017 13.18 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery Communications have launched their joint streaming service under the brand 7TV in Germany.

In the new, free-of-charge OTT platform open for further partners and content, the 7TV app from ProSiebenSat.1 will be integrated which previously cost €2.99 per month.

“As part of the opening of 7TV for other channels and formats such as DMAX and TLC, the paywall was lifted for the benefit of the reach, so all content is free,” a Discovery spokesman told Broadband TV News.

At launch, the ad-supported multiscreen platform announced in May 2017 contains the live-streams and on-demand content from Sat.1, ProSieben, kabel eins, sixx, ProSieben Maxx, Sat.1 Gold and kabel eins Doku. Discovery contributes DMAX and TLC.

ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery want to expand their 7TV partnership and plan, for example, a Eurosport Zone with selected sports highlights and clips.

“This announcement is just the start as we work to add more channels and content partners, greater functionality and enhanced technological capabilities and commercial opportunities in the months ahead,” said Michael Lang, President, International Development & Digital at Discovery Networks International.

A search is currently underway for a CEO to run the joint venture; an announcement is expected to be made soon. SevenOne Media, the media sales house of ProSiebenSat.1, will be responsible for the digital advertising inventory.
