Polish cable subscribers look to SVOD

October 10, 2017 08.37 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul, PIKE 2017, Poznan

One in four Polish cable customers now receive Netflix, according to Guy Bisson, research director, Ampere Analysis.

In a wide-ranging presentation at PIKE 2017 in which he made frequent references to Poland, Bisson said that Polish cable customers are stacking SVOD with cable and traditional premium TV.

This was clearly reflected in their take-up of Netflix, with 25.8% opting to receive the service.

At the same time, 28% chose Player.pl and 20.6% HBO, with Canal+ Film and Amazon Prime Video being chosen by 14% and 8% respectively. Interestingly, 17% of Netflix users also opted for Amazon Prime Video and 36% for HBO.

Looking at Polish cable customers’ motivations for taking TV services, Bisson said that aside from price, the most popular one was them being bundled, followed by offering shows they like.

In the case of broadband, the top reason was offering speeds good for watching video, followed by being bundled and having no data cap. Bisson also said in the case of Poland there was currently no real evidence of cord cutting, with the market largely flat in 2016.
