Romania’s electronic communications market doubled in value between the years 2003-16.
According to data published by the regulator ANCOM, it was worth RON14.96 billion (€3.27 billion) in 2016, compared to RON7.38 billion in 2003, despite fluctuations in both the world’s and Romania’s economy.
The report by ANCOM, entitled 360 degree regulation – from word to terabyte in 15 years, points out that the take-up of almost all services is growing.
In the fixed broadband sector, the number of connections increased from 14,000 at the end of 2003 to 4.4 million at the end of last year, while the total number of broadband connections rose from 181,000 to 16.6 million over the same period.
Internet consumption in Romania is primarily undertaken through fixed connections despite there being far more mobile connections.
