Netflix has raised its prices in a number of territories, including the UK and the United States, for the first time in three years.
It’s also planned to increase charges in a number of other European countries.
In the UK the price of a ‘standard plan’ has risen by 50p to £7.99 per month, while the top tier ‘premium’ subscription, including 4 simultaneous streams and Ultra HD content is now £9.99. Basic remains unchanged at £5.99.
In most Euro countries, the basic tier remains at €7.99, standard increases with a euro to €10.99, while the top-tier now retails at €13.99.
It’s the first major price increase since 2014 and comes at a time when Netflix has made major investments in content.
It Intends will release 40 feature films this year, ranging from “big budget popcorn films to grassroots independent cinema”.
Netflix passed the symbolic 100 million subscriber mark in the second quarter and at the time forecast 3.65 million international net ads in the third quarter, as well as a positive international contribution profit for the full year.
