Deutsche Telekom launches Ultra HD service

October 4, 2017 12.42 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Deutsche Telekom has commenced offering Ultra HD content on its IPTV platform Entertain TV.

For reception, customers need the new IPTV receiver MR 401 which also provides direct access to Netflix.

The Ultra HD line-up on Entertain TV comprises on-demand content from Videoload, Netflix, YouTube and Sky Deutschland. Insight TV, a channel focussing on technology, adventures, travelling and extreme sports, is available as a linear Ultra HD channel. On each match day of Germany’s national ice-hockey league DHL, one game is transmitted in the new video format without extra charge.

The MR 401 receiver is offered for €4.95 per month. Thanks to the exchangeable hard-disk, personal video recordings can be taken over from the preceding model MR 400. The model MR 201 for additional TV sets in the household costs €3.95 per month.

Ultra HD on-demand content is available to all Entertain TV customers due to efficient compression and streaming systems, according to Deutsche Telekom. For Ultra HD live TV, a subscription to the Magenta Zuhause L tariff with up to 100Mbps download data rate is required.

Deutsche Telekom announced the Ultra HD offer, the direct Netflix access and the new receiver generation at IFA 2017 in Berlin and recently confirmed to Broadband TV News that the new products will be introduced in October 2017.
