Christian Drobnyk joins Nat Geo

September 20, 2017 19.12 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Christian Drobnyk has been appointed executive VP, programming strategy and acquisitions for National Geographic Channels.

In this role, he will be based in New York and oversee the programme scheduling strategy, planning and acquisitions for National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild and Nat Geo Mundo, reporting to Courteney Monroe, National Geographic Global Networks CEO.

Drobnyk will lead the design and execution of the network’s programming and acquisition strategy, and the coordination of global launches that maximise audience and performance across the National Geographic portfolio. He will play an integral role in the communication and implementation of network strategies across all shows and platforms.

He has joined National Geographic Partners from A+E Networks, where he was senior vice president, programming strategy, acquisitions and co-pro for Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network.
Previously, he was GM at UKTV Entertainment Networks at BBC Worldwide, where he oversaw all aspects of UKTV’s entertainment networks, and Discovery, where he led programming and development for TLC.

Commenting on the appointment, Monroe said: “With National Geographic’s continued ethos of creating broader, premium and upscale programming and attracting A-list talent to the network, both in front of and behind the camera, Christian’s addition to our executive team, with his extensive experience in both the U.S. and the U.K., is natural fit to advance our programming and acquisitions strategy further.

“I am thrilled to have him lead our incredibly dynamic scheduling and acquisitions team as we continue creating and delivering premium entertainment with purpose.”

Drobnyk added: “The iconic National Geographic brand has been going through an exciting evolution, and as a lifelong fan of the brand, I am thrilled to join Courteney and the team at National Geographic in taking the brand further and steering the premium content strategy into the future”.
