Revenues in Moldova’s pay-TV market amounted to MDL79 million (€3.66 million) in the first six months of this year, or 4.6% more than in the same period in 2016.
However, according to data published by the regulator ANRCETI, the total number of subscribers in the same period fell by 3.1% to 262,000.
The slight increase in revenues was down to strong growth in the IPTV sector. Here, they amounted to MDL36 million and were 16.9% higher than a year earlier.
At the same time, cable revenues fell by 6.9% to MDL49.6 million. Meanwhile, ARPU, at MDL49.6, was up by 6.9% higher.
While the number of cable subscribers fell by 5.9% to 180,600, the IPTV subscriber base grew by 3.7% to 81,000.
Pay-TV penetration per 100 inhabitants rose by 0.23 percentage points to 7.37%.
All told, there were 78 active providers of pay-TV services as of the end of June, of which 69% were cable and 31% IPTV.
The penetration of digital service rose by around four percentage points in the year to June 30 to 48.5%.
Moldtelecom remained the market leader with a share of 32%. It was followed by Sun Communications (24.2%) and TV Box (13.1%), with the remaining providers claiming a combined 30.7%.
