Board for the Global Media Innovator 2018 unveiled

September 11, 2017 11.03 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The Diplomatci Council has unveiled the board for the Global Media Innovator 2018 award.

The DC Global Media Board established for the nomination of the third Global Media Innovator which will be awarded during the 2018 DC Gala, has grown in size and includes senior industry personalities: Nigerian TV Expert Ijeoma Onah, Dato’ Ng Wan Peng, COO Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, MDEC (Malaysia), and Moeed Ahmad, Head of Incubation & Innovation Group of Al Jazeera Media Network (Doha). Blair Westlake, Principal Media Squareup (Seattle), Ian Wightman, VP Research and Operations of IHS Markit Inc. (Austin), Ed Hall, Managing Partner Expert Media Partners (London), Robin Eckermann, Eckermann Associates (Canberra) and Jo Groebel, Deutsches Digital Institut (DDI) in Berlin.

If there is no clear majority during the Global Innovator 2018 elections, the vote of the Diplomatic Council’s Founding President, Ambassador Buddhi K. Athauda, will decide.

The DC Global Media Innovator is chosen annually, to the company with the biggest influence on the development of the global digital community. It is chosen by a Board of nine independent senior media and IT industry experts from all over the world. The Innovator cannot be applied for, but the Board monitors the entire media world. It is the Global Leadership Board’s first task to suggest candidates for the DC GMI 2017.

The DC Global Media Innovator made its debut in 2016 with British company V-Nova. In 2017, it was Emblematic Group based in Santa Monica, CA, who set new benchmarks in the creation of news content through virtual and augmented reality.

Dieter Brockmeyer, chairman of the Diplomatic Council’s Global Media Forum explains: “I am looking forward to working with such a great Board, with old friends from the previous two years and with the newcomers, each a true expert in their field. Every year media convergence progresses, and an independent award that cannot be applied for gains importance. This is clearly shown by the overwhelming response to the announcements of the last two nominees.”
