Quickline attacks UPC and Swisscom with free OTT service

September 5, 2017 23.44 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Swiss cable operator group Quickline wants to not only reach the 400,000 households within its footprint, but the whole Swiss population from September 2017.

To reach this task, Quickline will launch OTT service Quickline TV Air Free. The line-up will comprise 130 free-to-air channels, sports channel MySports HD, all channels featuring 30 hours Replay TV plus 10 hours of recording. The crucial factor: Quickline TV Air Free will be offered to consumers free of charge and without advertisements.

With the move, the medium-sized cable operators not only attack market leaders UPC and Swisscom, but also established OTT players like Zattoo. Quickline, as it points out, doesn’t, hence, see itself as a sole infrastructure operator any longer, but as an independent platform provider.

The OTT service will become available on September 25, 2017 at the latest through an app for smartphones and tablets and directly on its website.
