Noel Curran has officially taken up his position as the new DG of of the EBU.
He replaces Ingrid Deltenre, who has stepped down after eight years in charge to focus her attention on her board responsibilities.
Curran is a former DG of Ireland’s RTÉ, which he radically restructured in the wake of the financial crisis and successfully repositioned as a robust digital media organisation.
He is also an award winning investigative journalist and producer and has worked on a wide range of live television events including producing the 42nd Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin in 1997.
Commenting on his new role, he said: “I am delighted to be taking the helm of the world’s leading alliance of public service media.
“This is a challenging time for everyone working in PSM but, it is also an incredibly exciting time, with new technology presenting a slew of new opportunities and the role of public service broadcasters as trusted sources of news and information never being more important than it is today.
“For nearly 70 years, the EBU has been there to support PSM and champion the values we all hold in common. I am honoured to continue this fine tradition and look forward to meeting as many members as possible in the forthcoming months to harness their ideas and passion to drive our organisation forward.”
