Estonia has gained tens of thousands of new pay-TV subscribers in the last three months.
According to ERR and AKTR, the decision by Kanal 2 and TV3, the country’s two leading commercial broadcasters, to stop transmitting FTA left 50,000-70,000 people facing the prospect of no longer being able to watch their services.
Quoting Otto Rijsinberg, the product manager of Starman, they add that at least 20,000 have already signed up to Starman’s cable services.
Furthermore, the company expects the number to increase significantly this month.
Meanwhile, Telia says it has gained at least 10,000 new customers, while Viasat has seen its subscriber total increase by 10,000-20,000.
The greatest interest in receiving pay-TV services has been seen in Saaremaa, Harju, Tartu and southern Estonia.
