Traffic to Telenor’s network in Norway from HBO was 40 per cent higher on Monday, compared to Saturday evening, and 20 per cent up on Sunday.
The telco is attributing the rise to the season finale of Game of Thrones.
“We know Game of Thrones is a very popular series that has become the big conversation in Norway. Therefore, it is not unexpected that traffic has risen to new heights during the season, says Birgit Bjørnsen, Head of TV and Broadband in Telenor Norway.
During a regular week, Telenor sees the most traffic on a Sunday evening between 9pm and 10pm, as Norwegians seek out movies on content services such as Netflix, HBO and TV 2 Sumo.
“Good content is a strong traffic driver in Telenor’s nationwide broadband network and is becoming increasingly important to win the fight for customers. Game of Thrones has gained a good foothold among Norwegian viewers over time, and is considered by many as the flagship for HBO, “says Bjørnsen.
Telenor has also detected tects a significant increase in traffic on Canal Digital Cable’s TV solution T-We. Since the start of Season 7 there has been a doubling in the number of viewers on C More in the T-We app seen against a regular day.
