Gazprom Media has decided to pull out of a project that has previously been described as a “Russian Hulu”.
Quoting several industry sources, AKTR and RNS report that one reason for its action was that other companies behind the project – National Media Group (NMG), VGTRK, Channel One and CTC Media – were unwilling to use the Pladform player, which was developed by Gazprom Media.
Although the other companies have agreed to move ahead with the project, they have indicated that Gazprom Media will be able to rejoin it at a future date if it wishes to do so.
There is no agreement as to when a “Russian Hulu” could be launch, with the most optimistic prediction being within the next six months.
