HD+, the German HDTV platform for satellite households on Astra (19.2° East), has made its multiscreen service HD+ ExtraScreen available on tablets and smartphones using Android.
The required app HD+ Connect can be downloaded from Google Play. To use HD+ ExtraScreen, viewers need the satellite receiver Humax UHD 4tune+ with an active HD+ smartcard.
On contrast to other SAT-IP solutions, it is technically possible with HD+ ExtraScreen to also receive encrypted HDTV channels on smartphones and tablets, independent of the channel currently being watched on the TV set. The streaming to the mobile devices is through the customer’s Wi-Fi network.
The Android version of the app already contains the time-shift function enabling users to pause programmes and continue watching them later. The feature will be integrated into the iOS version in the next weeks. There will also be a TV recording function in future.
The app is free of charge and without commercials; for usage only a registration at www.hd-plus.de is required.
In addition to Humax, HD+ ExtraScreen will become available on receivers from other manufacturers in future.
