OTT service Knippr launches on Samsung smart TVs

August 23, 2017 08.56 Europe/London By Robert Briel

T-Mobile’s Dutch OTT platform Knippr has launched an app for live streaming on Samsung smart TVs.

The new app brings the service to all 2017 Samsung smart TV models enabling viewers to subscribe to Knippr without the need for a cable or IPTv subscription and without a set-top box or dongle. Knippr was launched by T-Mobile in June 2016 as an a la carte OTT service.

“With the addition of Knippr to the Samsung smart TV ecosystem, we put the next important step in meeting customer needs,” said Rick Fens, senior content manager at Samsung Benelux.

“Offering live TV, without additional cables, set-top boxes or remotes, was high on our wish list. And thanks to Knippr, we can now offer it. It once again emphasizes the versatility of our smart TVs. At Samsung, we continue to innovate. Whether it is with new technologies or by entering into partnerships, our goal is to optimise the user experience of our products and services. ”

“There is less and less linear television in the Netherlands. An increasing number of consumers are considering dropping the traditional cable subscription with the large channel packages. Consumers want absolute freedom to decide which TV shows they want to see at a time and location of their choice,” said Johan Trouwborst, manager at Knippr.

“That’s exactly where we jump in with Knippr. The cooperation with Samsung is another step towards that ultimate freedom. No traditional cable subscription with extra set-top boxes, cables and an oversized channel package. With Knippr, customers have easy access to their own selected TV channels on the large Samsung TV screen. We will continue to expand the opportunities and freedom of choice for our customers through comparable partnerships, innovative technology and a growing channel offering. “
