Netflix rules in the Netherlands

August 23, 2017 07.05 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Netflix rules in the Netherlands. In July, Netflix reached 3,942,000 people in the Netherlands on PC, smartphone and / or tablet, which equals 27.5% of all Dutch from 13 years of age.

Not only that, but Netflix realised a higher reach in July 2017, with the entire universe of 13 years and older, than the combined range of online video portals from NPO (public broadcasters), RTL XL and KIJK.nl (SBS) put togehter.

According to research by GfK, Netflix has added a million people every year since July 2015. From 1.6 million in July 2015 to 2.7 million in July 2016 to 3.9 million in July 2017. Interestingly, these online results exclude watching Netflix on TV, for instance by using the Netflix app on Ziggo’s Horizon set-top box.

There are differences between age groups; The younger the higher the reach of Netflix. Almost half of young people between 13-34 years watched Netflix’s website or app. The reach in this group rose to 47% in July 2017, and they average 15 visits per month. Nearly a third of 35-49 year olds used the site or app.

Below 50 plus, the reach of these sites and apps is even higher. If we look at the intensity of using all Dutch from 13 years of age, the number of visits to Netflix is ??more than twice as high as the Dutch catch-up sites / apps.

The new video site from De Telegraaf newspaper, VNDG, reached 999,000 people in July.
