Telesport secures La Liga rights

The Russian marketing agency Telesport has secured the exclusive rights to Spain’s La Liga.

Quoting Alexander Vainshtein, the deputy DG of Telesport, Kommersant reports that the contract the company has signed with Mediapro is “long-term” and for “more than two years”.

Although he did not disclose how much Telesport paid for the rights, industry sources believe it was in the region of $5-10 million.

Significantly, Telesport plans to exploit the rights mostly on the internet and worked solely with the social media network Vkontakte on showing the first round of games of the new La Liga season, which started this weekend.

However, it also aims to achieve maximum distribution of La Liga and may work with Match TV, which missed out last year on securing La Liga rights.

Telesport is owned by Petr Makarenko, a former commercial director of the Russian Football Union.
