Spanish operator Telecable is to close its OTT platform after failing to secure football rights for the new season.
Tedi-TV will shut on August 31 with Telecable pointing customers towards Bein Sports that will carry the matches – and is available on its platform.
But the removal of the OTT platform has caused consternation among subscribers to the nationwide service. Many have expressed their anger over social media, but Telecable said it had been impossible to reach an agreement.
Tedi-TV only began offering football in March, but only four months later it was announced that Bein Sports, the Mediapro/Al-Jazeera JV, had picked up the rights to both the Champions League and La Liga domestic competition.
In April, the CNMC (National Commission of Markets and Competition) filed a disciplinary proceedings against Mediapro on grounds of restricting completion, The CNMC was concerned at the terms under which it was offering beIN Sports and beIN La Liga.
