Around 25,000 employees of the Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson could lose their jobs in a SEK 10 billion savings plan.
Svenska Dagbladt says the far-reaching plans could reduce Ericsson’s operations in some markets by up to 90 per cent. Several European operations are likely to be centralised.
Staff employed within Sweden, particularly those within research and development, are likely to be protected. What isn’t known is whether staff within the media sector, acknowledged by Ericsson to be on the market, will be affected.
Ericsson currently has around 109,000 employees in around 110 countries.
In a statement Ericsson said it has not communicated which specific units or countries could be affected. It is too early to talk about specific measures or exclude any country.
