The Polish public broadcaster TVP has plunged deeper into the red, posting a net loss of PLN176.75 million (€41.41 million) in 2016.
According to Presserwis, this compared to a net loss of PLN26.62 million in the previous year and a net profit of PLN6.29 million in 2014.
Factors impacting negatively on the broadcaster’s performance in 2016 included voluntary redundancies (PLN29.7 million), additional VAT (PLN66 million), reduced receiver licence fee income (a shortfall of PLN43.3 million) and less sponsorship and ad revenue (PLN50.1 million).
TVP’s revenues in 2016 amounted to PLN1.47 billion (-6.8%).
Ad sales stood at PLN753.79 million (-5.3%) and sponsorship PLN118.48 million (-6.2%), while receiver licence fees brought in PLN361.05 million (-10.7%).
TVP’s operational costs in 2016 were, at PLN1.65 billion, 8.2% higher than a year earlier.
