Discovery adds Bundesliga to Amazon Channels

August 16, 2017 21.07 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Discovery will offer the Bundesliga games it shows live from the upcoming season on Amazon’s multiscreen OTT service Amazon Channels in Germany and Austria.

According to the streaming deal struck between the two US companies, the OTT service Eurosport Player operated by Discovery’s subsidiary Eurosport will be made available on Amazon Channels for €4.99 per month from August 16, 2017.

Amazon Channels launched its à la carte live TV and on-demand subscription platform in Germany, Austria and the UK on May 23, 2017. The service is available to customers of Amazon Prime which costs €69 (Germany/Austria) and £79 (UK) per year.

Bundesliga coverage will kick off on Eurosport Player on August 18, 2017 with reigning champions, Bayern Munich, who will be chasing a sixth successive title, facing Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the opening game of the season. In addition to the live Friday night matches, Eurosport Player will stream highlights of all Bundesliga games as well as weekly interactive preview show Thank God it’s Matchday.

Besides 45 Bundesliga HD live games per season, most of them exclusively, Eurosport Player contains Eurosport’s other sports coverage including Grand Slam Tennis (Australian Open, Roland Garros, US Open), MotoGP and the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018.

Eurosport Player will be available through the Prime Video app on Smart TV sets, mobile iOS and Android devices and Fire tablets as well as Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV stick or directly online at www.amazon.de/channels.

This deal comes after the launch of Eurosport and Discovery channels on Amazon Channels in the UK earlier this year.

“We are delighted to offer our millions of Prime members in Germany and Austria access to live premium sports including Bundesliga football on Eurosport Player via Amazon Channels,” said Alex Green, Managing Director of Amazon Channels Europe.

“At €4.99 per month, with no long-term commitment and cancellable anytime, Prime members can enjoy Bundesliga matches and other premium sports at exceptional value and in the most flexible and easy way across all of their favourite devices and screens. This is great news for sports fans.”

For DTH households in Germany, Discovery recently signed a deal with Astra platform HD+ making the Bundesliga games available on satellite.
