Vassilis Costopoulos has been appointed the CEO of the Greek public broadcaster ERT.
In a statement, the EBU, of which ERT is a member, says that Costopoulos is a veteran attorney-at-law and acted as director of the Legal Department at ERT from 1988 until 2013.
While at ERT he served as a member of the Permanent Legal Committee and the Specialised Legal Committee on European Affairs at the EBU and was deputy member of the Administrative Council for a number of years.
The EBU adds that over the course of his career, Costopoulos has closely monitored electronic media related issues at a national and international level, with a focus on those relating to community, telecommunication and information technology.
It concludes by saying that the Greek Minister of Digital Policy Nikos Pappas stressed that Costopoulos was chosen from a field of 32 candidates because of his long experience at ERT.
Costopoulos plans to develop a new strategic plan to develop ERT, both in the fields of technological equipment and the exploitation of its property.
