Hungary’s Magyar Telekom has renewed its fixed line internet portfolio by introducing higher bandwidth packages.
The move is a direct result of the development of its broadband network, which is already available to more than 2.9 million households, with almost 700,000 being able to receive 1Gbps services.
The new portfolio offers five different internet packages, the fastest of which is 1Gbps. The others are 30Mbps, 50Mbps and the new 100Mbps and 250Mbps.
In addition, Magyar Telekom has renewed its Magenta 1 discount packages, which offer home and mobile broadband as a bundle.
The telco notes that 78% of Hungarian households with a TV set now also have internet access. Over two thirds (68%) also use the internet at home and 42% while watching TV, according to a survey by Nielsen.
However, the number of users connecting to the net through home PCs is decreasing, with people preferring to use their mobile devices also at home. Eighty four per cent of those aged 18-49 have mobile phones and two thirds laptops.
The research revealed that 73% of them use smartphones and 53% laptops to connect to the net. Invariably, the devices are used at the same time in households.
