The Russian government plans to allocate the National Sports TV Channel, the operator of Match TV, up to R1 billion (€14.1 million) for coverage of the 2019 Universiade.
According to Vedomosti, the funds will be provided within the framework of the state programme Development of Physical Culture and Sports and used for renting equipment, obtaining licences, permits and frequencies for broadcasting, decorating studios and paying transportation costs and salaries.
The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organised for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and will be held in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk in 2019.
Match TV is part of Gazprom Media and last year National Sports TV Channel made a loss of R1.7 billion.
