A further 127,000 premises were added under Virgin Media’s Project Lightning in Q2.
The UK cablenet delivered a record number of 78,000 RGU net additions and 21,000 customer net additions. Going against the tide, Virgin recorded its best-ever Q2 video RGU additions of 33,000, compared to a prior loss of 17,000.
Virgin attributes the video growth to the relaunch of Virgin TV and the rollout of the new Virgin TV V6 set-top box.
33,000 broadband net additions included a 31,000 gain in the UK.
But the figures come ahead of a 4.7 per cent average UK consumer price rise that will be introduced on November 1. Virgin plans to mitigate this with increased broadband speeds and new TV services.
Already mobile subscriptions are coming under pressure with the loss of 20,100 mobile subscribers on the quarter.
Despite this 4G subscriptions were up 347,000 in Q2 and now represent 35% of the postpaid base.
